National Novel Writing Month

nanowrimoNaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) begins soon!
The Challenge? To write 50,000 words during the month of November. Prep-work can be done in October so you’re ready to get drafting from Day 1. provides you with an online community – hundreds of thousands of individuals sign up worldwide – and tracking tools to help keep you motivated, while here at your local libraries we will be hosting community write-ins and other events to help you connect with like-minded locals.

Central Hawke's Bay local Andrew Harris is the author of 2 novels, 'The C Clef', 'A Litany of Good Intentions' and 'More', the soon to be released third book. His Human Spirit series are described as 'Action-packed thrillers with a social conscience'.

 We're excited to host NZ award winning author Gareth Ward. His first novel 'The Traitor and the Thief', a rip-roaring young adult Steampunk adventure, won the 2016 Storylines Tessa Duder Award, the 2018 Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Youth Novel, a 2018 Storylines Notable Book Award and was a finalist in two categories at The New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.
